Tests and More Tests

We just got back from visiting dad. He is still unresponsive, for the most part. Melenie did get a small hand squeeze from him when she read the comments that had been left in this Blog. We thank everyone for their love, concern, and prayers.

Yesterday they checked for gall stones, blood clots, and his gall bladder and liver function. They did a couple of ultrasounds to check for gall stones and blood clots. They didn't find any gall stones, and tests determined that his gall bladder is functioning properly. They did find some small blood clots in both arms in superficial veins. The doctors aren't too worried about this, but they have upped his blood thinner a bit. His liver is functioning properly, but they have noticed a small increase in his liver enzymes. The doctors said that this is pretty normal for someone in his post op condition. Today they are going to be doing a CT Scan (CAT Scan) to check his heart function.

It's hard to see dad in this state. One of the hardest things is determining how dad is feeling and what he needs from us, because he just can't tell us right now.

It was good to have Amy here for almost a week. She had to go back to Seattle this past Wednesday. With her Occupational Therapy skills she was able to help dad and show us how to read some of the monitors and understand some of the hospital lingo.

In addition to the comments to this Blog, we are going to be reading from the scriptures during our visits with dad. If any of you have a favorite scripture about hope, faith, or the healing power of the Atonement, please feel free to share them with us. Again, we thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support.

D&C 121, all of it. Joseph is in Liberty Jail and is pleading with the Lord for a reason behind the suffering he and his companions are going through. The response he gets has always brought me comfort when times seem difficult. D&C 121:7-9:

"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shale be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, Bod shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over thy foes. Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands."

One of my most favorite. Having visited Liberty Jail many times, it is evident why Joseph and his companions struggled. The place is now a place of peace and comfort.

May the Lord surround y ou all with his comforting warmth as you struggle through this trial in your lives.

Thank you Matt and Melenie for putting this blog together. We as a family have felt overwhelming love, comfort and strength from Heavenly Father and from our friends and family. Thank you for your prayers and faith. We realize in these moments how fragile we are and how brief our existence is. We continue to have reassurances of healing and miracles---knowing that Heavenly Father has a merciful plan. We pray to know and do His will.
Dad, there are few people that have such character as you have demonstrated---integrity, wisdom, faith, humor/playfulness, energy and determination. You have worked hard and really gone after life. I was reading last night about when Lehi and Nephi (and many others) were imprisoned and had to endure extreme agony (Helaman 5:12,21-23, 44-48). They were encircled about by a flaming fire that filled them with joy and glory. The Holy Ghost spoke to them, "Peace, peace be unto you, because of your faith in my Well Beloved..." Then, they were ministered to. We can seek that peace, that joy and the hand of Heavenly Father as we go forth with faith.

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

There is so much in life we just don't understand. Living by faith in the Lord is why we are here in this mortal probation. Thank heaven we have the knowledge of the gospel. I don't know how other people in the world make it through life without it.

Thinking of you, praying for you, loving you.
