Evaluation

In the rehab building they have evaluation meetings every Wednesday morning with the doctors and therapists to evaluate how you are progressing, and make goals for you to work towards. Dad had his first one today, and it went really well. They said that dad was really showing progress in all that he was working at. He is able to walk some without any help, and has started working on climbing stairs (this was his request, he really wants to get to the cabin). He climbed up and down 12 steps both yesterday and today. Mom and I were able to spend some time with him and his physical therapist today watching and learning what we'll need to know when the time comes for him to be released. We'll be going back tomorrow or Friday to learn more about helping him around and to work with dad getting into and out of the car.

Speaking of being released, they told dad today that if things are still looking this good next Wednesday that he'll be released to go home after his morning evaluation meeting. He would then be placed on an outpatient therapy program. He has another Barium Swallow test on Friday to check to see how he is swallowing. He is still working with the speech therapist working on his swallowing, and he can be released even if he is still feeding through a tube.

Prayers are being answered, and dad is coming home soon. We thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. Dad looks forward to hearing his latest blog comments every time we see him.

I keep hearing of the progress and am totally amazed at how fasst and complete it all seems to be. Prayers have been answered and miracles seem to have taken place! All the hiking is paying off! Hopefully, soon, our paths will cross again.

Love to all of you.

Hi to all of you: Peter's progress sounds amazing....but then so is he....I remember a couple of years ago I was visiting Sundance and Ellen and Peter were at a rodeo in Provo....they came over to Sundance and we had a great breakfast...then up to a lovely cabin your family owns...it was locked but we were on the deck and looking over some wonderful scenery and Peter indicated a time when the Robert Redford crew was there filming (maybe Jeremiah Johnson?) and they needed an electrical outlet ....so they ran a line up to your cabin...

I know how much Peter loves the out of doors and when he can get to their cabin in the Pines...he will really start some serious healing...

Love to you all... my prayers are with you..

Hello Peter,

You have new surroundings now in physical therapy - the first report sounds good. Climbing a few stairs is quite an accomplishment considering all that you have been through.
Soon, that will be a "piece of cake"!

We are amazed to read that if you continue your upward improvement you may be able to return home, next week. We hope so. What a boost that will be for you, psychologically - and for Ellen, Matt, Melenie and Amy and all that have been pulling for you, Peter. We do know that you will need to return for therapy at the center for a period of time, but Oh, Boy - "there is no place like home"!

Keep up the good work. We know your determination and positive outlook will heal your body with time and patience. We, too, will keep the positive thinking alive at our end.

Love to you and all the family,

Rosemarie and Bill
